Vinyl bag (Solvent inkjet printing)

Vinyl bag (Solvent inkjet printing)

Here is how to make an original vinyl bag using our solvent inkjet printer.
Data printing by the inkjet printer allows you to produce different types of goods even in a single piece, using not only patterns (one of those is used here) but also photos, handwritten illustration, design in different colors, etc.

What is the solvent inkjet printing?

Mechanism of the solvent ink adhesion

Pigment dispersed into a solvent enables direct printing on materials having no inkjet receiving layer such as PVC sheeting, a popular material of indoor and outdoor signs.

STEP 1: Data creation

STEP 1: Data creation

Create your printing data using Illustrator and save it in the EPS format.

A: 420mmx600mm One sheet (Bag piece)
B: 360mmx120mm Two sheets (Strap pieces)
C: 420mmx80mm Two sheets (Facing pieces)
* A seam allowance of 10mm is included.

STEP 2: Print the data

STEP 2: Print the data

Open RasterLink to read and print the data.
* Take one day for drying after printing. If you have no time, apply hot air using a hairdryer, etc., to dry the sheet completely, before moving to the next manufacturing process.

Precautions for preventing vinyl from sticking:

  • Paste up some fabric (quilt, etc.) on the heater area.
  • Set the pinch roller pressure to MIDDLE.
  • Turn OFF the heater.

STEP 3: Cutting

STEP 3: Cutting

Cut out the printed pieces with scissors.

STEP 4: Sewing

4-1. Fold the strap piece using a double-gate fold method and clip the fold in place.

Hammering the seam flat will make your sewing easier.

4-1

4-2. Put the parchment paper on the piece and sew up the side 3mm from the edge. Make another strap in the same way.

Sew 3 reverse stitches at the beginning and ending of each strap.

4-2

4-3. Face up the printed surface of the bag piece and place the strap on it with each end 11cm away from each edge. Place the facing piece on top of that with the back side up, and clip the pieces in place.

* The bag and facing pieces are placed with right (printed) sides together.

4-3

4-4. Put the parchment paper on and sew up the edge 3mm away from the top. Do this for the opposite side.

4-4

4-5. Fold back the facing piece inside, and fold the bag piece in half with right sides together. Sew up each side of the bag, leaving 1cm from each edge.

4-5

4-6. Pinch the bottom corner of the bag so that it forms a triangle, and clip the piece in place. Sew a seam across the top tip of that triangle, and snip off the extra tip.

Do this for the opposite side.

4-6

4-7. Turn the right side out and sew all the way around the top of the bag 5mm from the top edge.

* Sew with the right side up to have nice straight stitches.
